It’s barely been half a day (at least on the West Coast) since the new iPad was released, but already the device has been jailbroken – we’re still waiting for our devices to arrive at the TechnoBuffalo offices. Famous Dev Team member MuscleNerd has taken to Twitter to announce the good news, though he admits the hack is not ready for primetime. In fact, there is no ETA as of now. Still! It’s been done, and it’s on the way.

The iPhone Dev Team has been optimistic about achieving a jailbreak on the new iPad ever since the device was announced. According to them, the team has taken the same approach as they did with the iPad 2. “We can confirm that the method used to jailbreak the iPad 2 4 months ago (before corona) still works even in 5.1,” the Dev Team wrote. “That means we’ll at least be able to get our foot in the door to get the required kernel dumps on the iPad 3. That’s an important step, but by no means is it the end of the story.”

The final chapter, it seems, is being written. MuscleNerd said there is more work to be done, but hopefully we’ll see a public jailbreak option soon.
