Bethesda Making Elder Scrolls MMO?

Supposedly, Bethesda and ZeniMax Online Studios are working on a brand new MMORPG in the Elder Scrolls universe. The rumor comes from Tom’s Guide, a tech site, as they declared from an anonymous source that this brand new game would be announced in May of this year. The site went on to indicate that they had their information corroborated by two additional sources before running with the article itself.

According to Tom’s Guide, the Elder Scrolls MMO will take place 1,000 years before the events in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Elder Scrolls Online, as they called, will feature three different playable factions, and each faction will be represented by an animal (a lion, a dragon and a bird of prey).

Elder Scrolls Online will be announced by Bethesda and ZeniMax in May of this year. It will then, according to Tom’s Guide, be shown off to press and convention goers at both E3 in Los Angeles and QuakeCon 2012 in Dallas.

As usual, when it comes to rumors like this, assume the news is completely bogus until you hear otherwise from the developers or publisher directly. Once confirmation or denial happens officially, we’ll make sure to let you know.

The one downside to this news is that an MMORPG doesn’t typically allow for the modding community to go too crazy with ideas. That means videos like the one you see above probably won’t happen for this supposed Elder Scrolls Online. Too bad.
