The Ratchet & Clank Collection is Coming in HD

Sony has confirmed what we had down as a rumor earlier this month: Ratchet & Clank is getting an HD collection on the PlayStation 3 later this year. The collection includes three games from the franchise’s PlayStation 2 outings: Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. The remastering work is being done by Idol Minds, the studio behind the early PlayStation 3 exclusive, Pain. Insomniac Games, the original creators of the series, will play a supporting and supervising role.

The games in the collection will be playable in 1080p HD, and Up Your Arsenal will retain its featured multiplayer support. Each game will also support 3D play in 720p. Finally, the collection will sport trophies (three platinums, in fact).

The Ratchet & Clank Collection will launch this spring in Europe and this fall in North America. While they did not indicate exactly what they have planned for the large gap between launches, the PlayStation Blog did say that the North American release timing comes as a result of something special that’s being planned for the franchise’s 10th anniversary.

Ratchet & Clank turns 10 this year. Isn’t that scary?

As more comes for The Ratchet & Clank Collection, we’ll have it.
