Verizon Wireless 4G LTEFolks in Dothan, Alabama will have the distinct honor of being the 200th market covered by Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network on March 15, the carrier announced on Wednesday. Verizon is set to launch service in seven new cities while further expanding its 4G LTE network in 17 markets across the U.S. In total, the carrier will bring its tally up to 203 markets across the United States, with plans to hit more than 400 markets by the end of 2012 – that kind of expansion would offer 4G LTE coverage to over 260 million people.

“Our plans to double our 4G LTE network coverage from the end of 2011 to the end of 2012 align with the aggressive and rapid deployment strategy we have taken with our 4G LTE network,” said David Small, chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless. Small also said Verizon will only launch 4G LTE devices this year, suggesting that the carrier will indeed offer a 4G LTE capable iPhone by the year’s end.

Verizon will introduce 4G LTE to the following markets on March 15:

  • Dothan and Enterprise, Ala.
  • Naples, Fla.
  • Greenville, N.C.
  • Altus and Durant, Okla.
  • Longview/Marshall, Texas.

And the carrier will also expand its 4G LTE network in:

  • Washington, D.C.
  • Elkhart, Ind.
  • Baltimore, Md.
  • Columbus, Miss.
  • Northern N.J.
  • Wilmington, N.C.
  • Duncan, Okla.

  • Hilton Head, S.C.
