HTC has begun rolling out its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to selected smartphones today, with the Sensation and the Sensation XE the first two devices to join the party. The Taiwanese company announced the update in a humorous post on its blog:
Few innovations have improved upon ice cream as much putting it between two cookies and making a sandwich. Which is why we all want Ice Cream Sandwich! Ok, that’s not the real reason, but we’re all excited about Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, coming to HTC.
You’ll get the update first if you’ve got a one of the Sensation handsets mentioned above, but another 14 HTC smartphones will follow. These include:
- DROID Incredible 2 by HTC
- HTC Amaze 4G
- HTC Desire S
- HTC Desire HD
- HTC EVO 3D
- HTC EVO Design 4G
- HTC Incredible S
- HTC Sensation
- HTC Sensation XL
- HTC Sensation 4G
- HTC Sensation XE
- HTC Raider
- HTC Rezound
- HTC Rhyme
- HTC Thunderbolt
- HTC Vivid
The rollout is still in its early stages, according to HTC’s announcement, and the update will need carrier approval before it arrives on your handset. So don’t panic if you haven’t got it installed by the end of the week. At least you know that it’s on its way.
The company is hoping to have Ice Cream Sandwich “more widely available” over the coming weeks:
As for timing, we’re in the early stages of rolling out Android 4.0 for the HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE and upgrades will be more widely available in the next few weeks. The update for the HTC Sensation 4G and HTC Sensation XL will follow.
If your HTC handset isn’t included in that list, then it doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t get the Android 4.0 update. HTC says it is working with its carrier partners to “nail down update schedules” for its other smartphones, and that it should have more information to share “very soon.”
Has your HTC handset got the Ice Cream Sandwich update yet?
