Well, this is odd. A Samsung official has reportedly confirmed to the Korea Times that Apple is indeed working on a smaller “iPad Mini” tablet. According to the official, the tablet will measure 7.85-inches in size, just a bit smaller than the current iPad’s 9.7-inch display. Samsung may have grounds to brag about the product, however. Reportedly, the South Korea-based company is set to make about $11 billion providing the display, DRAM, processor and NAND flash for Apple’s iPads. “The contract is expected to rise to $11 billion by the end of this year as Apple is planning to release a smaller iPad, probably with a 7.85-inch screen, and to sell more of its MacBook Air PCs using Samsung’s faster solid state drive (SSD) storage,’’ the Samsung official told the Korea Times. The new tablet could arrive by the end of the year, so if the new iPad is still a bit too big for you, this might be something worth holding out on. We’re just still a bit baffled why Samsung would mention the iPad — seems it could strain the already tense relationship between the two companies even further.
