Apple is sending iWork.com off into the sunset, the company said on Friday. A support page has gone up on Apple’s website announcing the impending closure come July 31, 2012. Launched as a beta in 2009, iWork.com was intended for users of the productivity suite of applications to share documents between different version of Pages, Numbers and Keynote on iOS and Mac. The service never really caught fire, and was essentially rendered moot when iCloud was introduced built directly into apps and Apple’s various OSs. In an email going around to iWork.com users, Apple said, “With a new way to share iWork documents between your devices using iCloud, the iWork.com public beta service will no longer be available. We recommend that you sign in to iWork.com before July 31, 2012, and download all of your documents to your computer.” Once the site is closed, users will no longer be able to access documents or view them on the Web.
