Sony PSP-3000 Sky Blue Marine

If you though the launch of the Sony PS Vita last month meant the Japanese company had ceased supporting the handheld’s predecessor, the PlayStation Portable, then think again. Sony has unveiled a new PSP-3000 for gamers in its homeland that features a new two-tone “Sky Blue/Marine Blue” paint job.

Arriving on Thursday, April 26, in Japan, the new device will be available “in limited quantities,” and will cost ¥17,800 (approx. $219) as part of Sony’s PSP Value Pack — which includes a 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, a pouch, and a cleaning cloth.

While the new handheld’s release may come as a surprise to gamers in the U.S. and Europe, the PSP is still hugely popular in Japan, and continues to outsell its successor, the PS Vita. It’s unlikely you’ll see the new blue device popping up outside of Japan, however, where the PS Vita has gotten off to a much better start.

Sony’s new PSP is certainly a looker, but it still doesn’t beat the “Radiant Red” PSP I had back in the day. What do you think of the new color?
