Apple TV Supplies Continue to Dry up Across the U.S.

Either Apple has suddenly started doing a really poor job on its inventory control, or we’ll be seeing a new Apple TV box this week.

Since the middle of last month, supplies of the Apple TV set top box have been drying up all over the place.  This has led many to believe that a refresh of the device Apple has called “a hobby” – which is cute seeing as they sold 3 million of them last year – could be due for a refresh.  As rumors picked up steam of a March 7 Apple media event, speculation turned to that being the day we would see the Apple TV 3 debut alongside the iPad 3.  While some were still not convinced, the evidence has gotten pretty overwhelming at this point.

MacRumors did checks of every Apple Store in the United States and found that only two percent of them listed the Apple TV as currently in stock.  The online Apple Store is still listing the product as in stock with delivery dates of March 7 and March 8 listed depending on your shipping style, but the physical stores are saying nothing will be available until sometime between March 9 and March 15.

While rumors about every inch of the iPad 3 have circulated for ages now, about the only thing we’ve heard about a third edition of the Apple TV is that it will have 1080p output.  If there are any other changes coming to the device, they will be a surprise to just about everyone.

Be sure to check back in tomorrow as TechoBuffalo brings you full coverage of the Apple media event, and we learn what’s in store for the iPad 3, and possibly the Apple TV 3.
