Yahoo’s new CEO Scott Thompson is wasting in no time in trying to save the beleaguered Internet company. Sadly, it may come at the cost of several thousand jobs.
All Things D is reporting that sources inside and outside of the company are mumbling that the former search engine leader may be preparing to cut thousands of jobs as soon as the end of this month. Apparently the majority of the layoffs would come in the public relations and marketing, research, non-core businesses and regional efforts. The company has already hired Boston Consulting Group to help them refocus the business on growth areas and identify what can be cut out entirely.
To this end, Yahoo has already been trying to get out of its foreign deals with China’s Alibaba Group and Japan’s SoftBank to cut down on its overseas loses.
Yahoo is currently trying everything it can to right the ship that once ruled the search engine market, but one does have to wonder if it’s just too late.
