Pre-Order Darksiders II and Get the First DLC Free

The folks at THQ sent around a press release regarding future pre-orders for Darksiders II. The sequel to the year before last’s surprise hit, developed by Vigil Games and launched in January of 2010, is scheduled to release on June 26th, 2012.

If you pre-order the game, you’ll automatically receive a free upgrade to the Limited Edition. The Limited Edition, as the title of this story suggests, includes a download code for “Agrul’s Tomb,” the first round of downloadable content set to launch for Darksiders II. The release does not indicate when that DLC will be available, however.

The press note from THQ also details the Collector’s Edition that’s available only as a pre-ordered item. Here it is, verbatim, from the release:

There will also be a Collector’s Edition of the game launching on all three platforms. The Darksiders® II Collector’s Edition will include The Limited Edition version of the game as well as a life-sized replica Death Mask with display stand, a unique Shadow of Death armor and scythe set with enhanced stats, a digital copy of the Darksiders II sound-track and a hard-cover Darksiders II art book. The Collector’s Edition will be available in limited quantities as a pre-order item only and is anticipated to sell for around $99 USD.

I loved the original Darksiders, and because of that, I’m actually considering the Collector’s Edition of this game. I don’t normally go for all the extra bells and whistles offered by limited editions, but the nerd in me has decided that a “life-sized replica Death Mask with display stand” sounds way to awesome to pass up.

It’s actually the same reason I wound up hunting down a collector’s edition for Batman: Arkham City.

Will you folks be grabbing Darksiders II? How about pre-ordering upgraded editions, is that something you do frequently or plan on doing for this title?
