New rumors have surfaced that a lower capacity iPad 2 will be introduced next week alongside the iPad 3 to create a budget version of the popular tablet.
The hit-or-miss DigiTimes is reporting that Apple will unveil an 8GB version of the iPad 2 next week when it announces the iPad 3. While there has been a lot of talk of the iPad 2 hanging around at a lower price, the belief had been it would be the 16GB Wi-Fi version that would fall to a price of $399. If an 8GB version is to truly appear, it could potentially give Apple a lot more room to play with the pricing and make it that much more competitive.
However, the report does throw a bit of a monkey wrench into its reliability as it also states that only 16 and 32GB versions of the iPad 3 will be introduced. If true, this would see the elimination of the 64GB varieties, and that just seems fairly unlikely as many consumers have been calling for a 128GB version already. The supposed part numbers that leaked earlier this week also indicated there would be three models of each version of the iPad 3. True, we are pitting rumor against rumor, but it just seems a bit unlikely the largest capacity iPad would disappear.
