Research In Motion hinted that its PlayBook OS 2.0 was a big step toward developing an LTE-equipped tablet, and a new leak suggests the device may be a lot closer than the company lead on. A document obtained by MobileSyrup on Friday shows what is clearly a picture of a BlackBerry PlayBook device with a 4G stamp of approval. The real kicker, though, is the tablet is slated for an early April release.
Ok, so we can’t glean too much from the above photo other than the date and that there’s potentially an LTE PlayBook headed our way. But what else -besides BlackBerry Fushion – is on this mysterious document? How big will the tablet be? Does RIM have a huge announcement coming up? It looks like this is one of those cases where more questions are raised rather than answered.
The Waterloo-based company previously said in a press release early last year that it had “plans to launch two additional BlackBerry 4G PlayBook tablets during the second half of 2011, featuring support for LTE and HSPA+ high speed wide area wireless networks.” Of course, 2011 passed without such releases, and here we are into the second month of 2012 just receiving PlayBook OS 2.0.
If there’s an LTE PlayBook coming early April, well, that ain’t all that far off. Hopefully we’ll get something more substantial, whether leaked or via an official announcement, about this mystery device very soon.
