Apple Store Employee Steals Over $16,000 in iPhones

iPhone 4S stacked boxesWhen a Charlotte, North Carolina Apple store was suddenly short 25 iPhones – and out over $16,000 – management understandably suspected they were the victims of theft. They were right, but never did they think it was the result of an inside job. Apparently one of the store’s Geniuses couldn’t resist the allure of all those iPhones just sitting around.

According to the Charlotte Observer, between December 1 and January 11, an employee swiped the devices from the Genius Room located inside the store. “The suspect did have access to the Genius Room,” the Charlotte Observer said. The person obviously thought they could take advantage of their position without getting caught.

The suspect apparently got away with exactly $16,425 in goods, including 22 16GB iPhone 4S models, one 64GB 4S, one 32GB 4S and one 8GB iPhone 4.

If you bought an iPhone in the Charlotte area at a too-good-to-be-true price, you may have purchased stolen merchandise.
