Kindle Fire vs Nook Tablet

Barnes & Noble is believed to be preparing a cheaper 8GB Nook tablet that will go head-to-head with Amazon’s $199 Kindle Fire tablet this week. Leaked Walmart documentation obtained by The Verge shows the new device will launch at 12:01 AM on Wednesday, February 22.

New 8GB Nook at Walmart

The Android-powered slate is expected to be identical to the existing Nook tablet, which currently sells for $249 — $50 more than the popular 7-inch Kindle Fire. But in a bid to better compete with Amazon’s device, Barnes & Noble will reportedly ship a cheaper model — with just 8GB of storage as opposed to 16GB — matching the $199 price tag sported by the Kindle Fire.

Deliveries of the new Nook tablet will be arriving at Walmart stores between February 18 and February 21, according to the document, though it will not appear on the retailer’s system until February 22.

Do you think that by shipping a cheaper Nook tablet, Barnes & Noble will be able to compete with the Kindle Fire?
