Acer Iconia Tab A200 Gets Android Ice Cream Sandwich Update

Acer Iconia Tab A200

Acer has begun rolling out the long-awaited Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for its Iconia Tab A200 tablet to users in the U.S. today. The new software will come as an over-the-air update and is expected to arrive on all devices by the end of next week.

In true Acer fashion, the Ice Cream Sandwich release has been tweaked to include a number of custom features, such as the familiar “Acer Ring” shortcut wheel, which provides quick and easy access to apps, web favorites, and social networking; and a new and improved weather widget.

App shortcuts have also been added to the lock screen, like those you get with HTC’s Sense user interface. These customizations are likely to be the reason why Acer didn’t quite meet the January deadline it previously set itself for the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

If you’re using a 7-inch Iconia Tab A100 or a 10-inch Iconia Tab A500 instead, Acer has promised that Ice Cream Sandwich will be available for these devices during April — presumably with the same customizations being introduced to the A200.

Have you got your Ice Cream Sandwich on your Acer Iconia Tab A200 yet?
