While Apple managed to completely blindside us with the announcement of Mountain Lion, it seems the company is having a harder time keeping its upcoming iOS 5.1 upgrade under wraps. Images of a pre-GM version have appeared on BlogdoiPhone, revealing a few new features – one we knew about already.
The most interesting tidbit is an all new way to access the Camera app from the lock screen. Rather than double tapping to reveal the camera button, Apple will now include an ever-present icon for even quicker access. All users would need to do is swipe up, and up comes the Camera app. It sounds like a nice alternative to all the button pressing and app launching that’s currently available.
The other addition to 5.1 is the presence of Siri’s ability to speak Japanese, and it’s rumored the voice assistant will gain the ability to understand other languages as well.
Apple has reportedly been seeding iOS 5.1 to developers for quite some time, but lately things have been rather quite. The latest rumor pegged the mobile upgrade for March 9, presumably to launch with the iPad 3.
