by Joey Davidson | February 14, 2012February 14, 2012 10:30 am PDT

Listen up, friends and fans of Commander Shepard’s work in saving the universe: the Mass Effect 3 demo, courtesy of BioWare and EA, will be up today on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms. As of writing this story, the demo is up for the Xbox 360, it will be up for the PlayStation 3 and the PC this afternoon.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Now, get to ignoring your significant others and downloading this demo for the good of all virtual humankind!

What can you expect when you download the demo? You’ll get a lengthy cutscene and then two separate single player campaign moments. Once you’re done with those (or before you even start them, dealer’s choice), you can hop into the introduction to the multiplayer portion of this franchise. BioWare created multiplayer specifically for Mass Effect 3, and playing it in the final game will help you along your single player narrative.

Additionally, if you’re an Xbox 360 gamer and you don’t have a Gold account, Microsoft and EA have come together to offer a temporary upgrade. Silver Xbox LIVE account holders are unable to take advantage of multiplayer in their games. That perk is for paying customers only. However, if you download the Mass Effect 3 demo in order to try the multiplayer, your account will be upgraded from Silver to Gold status until the final game releases.

Finally, the trailer at the head of this post is brand new. Well, it’s actually a teaser for a teaser to be shown next Sunday during The Walking Dead on AMC. But, hey, it’s still pretty sweet.

Mass Effect 3 will launch for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on March 6th, 2012. Will you be finishing this trilogy?
