U.K. Retailer Clove Ceases Sales of Transformer Prime Following Customer Complaints

Asus Transformer Prime Ice Cream Sandwich

British retailer Clove.co.uk has ceased sales of the Asus Transformer Prime tablet until further notice due to “complaints of faults.” The tablet is the first device to ship with NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 processor, but it has been plagued by issues with W-Fi and GPS performance, as well as random reboots under the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

Asus has been working to correct these issues since the tablet’s release, and it promised that more fixes would arrive this month. But some customers remain unhappy with the device. So much so that the Taiwanese company has offered U.K. users full refunds and extended 18-month warranties.

Now one British retailer is refusing to sell it. Clove issued a statement on its website confirming that it is unsatisfied with the Transformer Prime, and that sales would be halted until further notice:

Stock supply has been a real issue and good levels of stock are not expected until late February/March.

However we have been able to obtain some stock sooner than expected; but because of complaints of faults with the model we took the decision to thoroughly test stock before fulfilling any orders.

We are at this time not satisfied that all units we could provide you with are working correctly, and performing to the standard we expect of the unit.

We have therefore taken the decision until further notice stop selling the ASUS Transformer Prime.

If you’ve ordered a Transformer Prime from Clove and you’re yet to receive it, the retailer will automatically cancel the order. It has also assured customers that no payment has been taken from their credit cards.

Clove has not ruled out future Transformer Prime sales, and states that “if in time [it] feels the situation has changed and [it] is happy to sell the Prime,” it will let its customers know that orders are being accepted again. The retailer also apologizes for the situation.

This is disappointing news for those waiting for their order from Clove, but we can certainly understand its move. The issues with the Transformer Prime have been well documented since its release, and many early adopters have been left disappointed with the device.

Do you think other retailer should cease Transformer Prime sales until its issues are addressed?
