Chalk this one up as a real oddity, but at least one Apple rumor site is saying that the company is indeed having a media event this month, but it’ll be something “strange.”
According to Macotakara, a Japanese Apple site with a mixed track record when it comes to rumors, the iPad 3 is still on its way for a March release, but instead of announcing it in February the site claims it will also be announced in March.
Now, that part isn’t so odd, but what is different is that they claim that Apple will still have an event this month for something “strange.”
What Macotakara is claiming is that production sources told them that the event won’t be a product announcement, but something all together different. Seeing as Apple already had an event in January to announce textbooks, we’re a bit stumped as to what the heck this could be.
For now we suggest you take the “strange” event bit with a grain of salt, but as for the iPad 3, just make another check in the column for a March release.
UPDATE: The Loop, which is well-known for quashing rumors such as this, has contacted their usual folks at Apple and came back with the following conclusion:
This is not going to happen, according to my sources. Apple will not hold an event in February, unusual or otherwise. That’s it.
Considering the track records of Macotakara and The Loop, we’re going with the latter.
