T-Mobile U.S.A. has become the world’s first carrier to offer its customers the Square credit card reader for smartphones. The accessory, which plugs into your smartphone’s headphone jack and allows you to process card payments on the go, is available in T-Mobile stores throughout the United States from today.
The Square reader is already on sale in Apple retail stores, and is also offered by other retailers like Best Buy and Target. But T-Mobile is the first operator to adopt the device, with a focus on helping small businesses accept credit card payments for the first time and “get paid fast.”
Matt Millen, vice president of small and medium business sales at T-Mobile, says that Square provides small businesses with an “easy” path to growth:
“The success of our small business customers is important to us. Formerly ‘cash only’ small businesses can now simply and cost-effectively accept credit cards with their smartphone using Square, giving them an easy path to growth.
“As these businesses evaluate their wireless needs, T-Mobile is committed to providing quality of service, cost savings and connectivity that are a requirement for their success.”
And it seems the carrier’s commitment to small businesses is already paying off. Nikki Halgren, owner of The Gleeful Peacock, says the Square and T-Mobile are already helping her business grow significantly:
“T-Mobile understands my needs as a small business owner. They not only keep me connected on the go, but they’ve made it easy for me to get paid fast with my T-Mobile smartphone and Square. T-Mobile has made it simple and, as a result, I’ve nearly doubled my business over last year.”
If you’re a small business owner with T-Mobile, will you be using the Square to take credit card payments for the first time?
