Nikon Coolpix P510 With 42x Optical Zoom, F1.8 P310 Unveiled

Today Nikon announced the Nikon Coolpix P510 Super Zoom and Nikon Coolpix P310 advanced compact digital cameras. The Coolpix P510 blows the doors off the competition with a 42x optical zoom lens while the Coolpix P310 rocks a fast F/1.8 lens. Both cameras are equipped with 16.1-megapixel Backside Illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensors.

Nikon Coolpix P510

Nikon-Coolpix-P510_BK_AngleAnother one of my State of the Union digital camera predictions has already come true. The Nikon Coolpix P510 busts into the Super Zoom lead with a massive 42x optical zoom. This is the biggest zoom available on a fixed-lens point-and-shoot to date. I can only hope that the Nikon Coolpix P510’s image stabilization system can handle a 1,000mm equivalent focal length. The Nikon Coolpix P510 is capable of 5fps continuous burst shooting at full resolution, and Nikon touts the camera’s quick AF system. The Nikon Coolpix P510 will offer GPS because hey, everyone’s doing it! The camera will record 1080p HD video with stereo sound and is set to ship this February for $429.95.

  • 42x optical zoom NIKKOR lens with 24mm-1,000mm focal length (35mm equivalent)
  • 1/2.3-inch 16.1-megapixel Backside Illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor
  • 3-inch 921,000-pixel vari-angle LCD display
  • GPS with geotagging
  • 1080p HD video recording
  • 100-6400 ISO range (expandable to 12,800 in special effects mode)
  • Electronic viewfinder

Nikon Coolpix P310

Nikon-Coolpix-P310_BK_AngleThe Nikon Coolpix P310 is supposedly a low light stalker with a bright f/1.8 NIKKOR lens that offers a 4.2x optical zoom. The camera’s 16.1-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor will combat darkness in conjunction with an ISO spectrum that matches the Coolpix P510. Fortunately, the Coolpix P310 is granted with Nikon’s optical VR image stabilization, which is superior to electronic systems. 1080p video recording and advanced manual controls make the Nikon Coolpix P310 a competitive point-and-shoot. The Nikon Coolpix P310 will ship this February for $329.95.

  • 1/2.3-inch 16.1-megapixel Backside Illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor
  • f/1.8 NIKKOR lens with 4.2x optical zoom and 24-100mm focal length (35mm equivalent)
  • 3-inch 921,000-pixel LCD display with anti-reflection coating and 5 brightness levels
  • 1080p 30fps HD video recording
  • 100-6400 ISO range (expandable to 12,800 in special effects mode)
  • PSAM Mode dial for advanced camera control
  • Advanced Night Portrait mode combines consecutive images of the background while the subject is captured using the flash
  • Night Landscape mode combines several fast shutter images into one
  • Backlight HDR mode merges images with varying exposure levels
