Time Warner has issued an update to its TWC TV application for iOS that introduces support for live television streaming on the iPhone and the iPod touch. The feature, which was already available on the iPad, allows you to watch selected cable channels live on your device at no additional charge.
Users who already have the application can download version 2.6.0 from the App Store now. If you don’t already have it and you’re a Time Warner Cable subscriber, it’s completely free to download to your iOS devices.
A similar application is also available to those of you with Android-powered devices, but unfortunately there’s no live streaming with this version just yet. As it currently stands, the Android app only allows you to browse the channel guide and set DVR recordings.
To watch live TV, your device will need to be connected to your home Wi-Fi network, so you can’t take advantage of the feature while you’re out and about. If you don’t have a Time Warner Cable-provided internet service, you’ll need to contact customer care for setup assistance to access live streaming. Furthermore, you’ll need an iPhone 3GS, a third-generation iPod touch, the original iPad, or a more recent iOS device.
In addition to the new feature for smaller iOS devices, the latest update also claims to fix minor bugs that were present within the previous release.
Have you tried live TV streaming from Time Warner on your iPhone yet?
