Windows Phone Marketplace Surpasses 60,000 Apps

Windows Phone Marketplace has now hit 60,000 apps. While 60,000 certainly isn’t a large number when you look at the Android Market and Apple’s App Store, the number does signify a significant increase I the Windows Phone Marketplace over just the last month.

25 days ago the Windows Phone market was sitting at just 50,000 apps. Over the past month the marketplace has adding a whopping 400 new apps everyday, allowing it to clear the 60k mark. The move from 40k to 50k apps took the store 40 days.

Part of what puts Windows Phone behind the competition is the lack of apps in its marketplace. If the WP Marketplace continues to grow quickly, that will definitely help the platform sway buyers in its direction. This year is already shaping up to be a big one for Windows Phone in general. Nokia has announced two new WP devices for the U.S. (the Lumia 900 being one of our faves from CES), and several other huge manufacturers have started making drool-worthy Windows Phones that are definitely worth a look.
