It’s been a long time coming, but the Greenpois0n jailbreaking team announced this morning that it has cracked the mystery of the untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.

While there have been other jailbreaking solutions for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, the one that everyone really waits for is where you don’t have to hook the device up to your computer and you can just click and get it done.  While this has always taken longer than tethered solutions, the wait this time around has been longer than most.  Speaking to the difficulties they faced this time, Greenpois0n said, “I don’t know if any iOS hacker anticipated how much the A5 chip would completely change the game & up the stakes.”

After what amounted to literally thousands of man hours, and accumulating more than 10 million crash reports, the job was finally done, and the tool for untethered jailbreaking has been released.  One does, however, have to wonder how much more difficult things will be with the iPad 3’s rumored A6 processor which is now more than likely mere months away, if not weeks.

Will you be jailbreaking any of your devices?
