Today at the swanky Guggenheim in frosty New York City, Apple unveiled a brand new application for writers called iBook Author. Following Apple’s iBook 2 announcement, Roger Rosner demonstrated the new iBook Author application, which enables writers to create their own interactive books complete with images and videos. For those who despise reformatting, iBook Author supports Microsoft Word content so that a Word file can simply be dragged into a chapter and all sections and headers will be configured automatically.
Images can also be added easily with text wrapping around and reformatting. IBook Author also supports WYSIWYG widgets, enabling the ability to drag and drop them right into your next best-selling novel. Mr. Rosner also touted iBooks Author as having the “world’s best glossary creation tool.” Words can be highlighted and added to the glossary and a definition can be applied by a mere click of a button.
When writers are finished with their masterpieces, they can publish their iBook directly to the iTunes Store. The best part about iBook author is that it’s free from the App Store, and currently available as of today.
