If you weren’t already disappointed that you missed out on a $99 TouchPad tablet during HP’s fire sale last year, then you will be now. We already know that hackers are working on porting Google’s Android operating system to the device, but we didn’t expect it to get Ice Cream Sandwich earlier than most native Android tablets.
Admittedly this is only a very early build, but as you can see from the video above, it functions rather well. It’s running Android version 4.0.3 — also known as CyanogenMod 9 — and you, too, can install the release on your own TouchPad… though you will have to build it yourself.
The developer has posted instructions to the RootzWiki forums that will teach you how to build your own ROM from scratch. However, if you’re worried about tinkering with your TouchPad yourself, it might be best to wait until a ROM is released, rather than risk any damage to your device.
While this may hack may well be in its early stages, I think you’ll agree that it’s very impressive to see Ice Cream Sandwich running on a TouchPad, and I’m sure TouchPad owners are incredibly excited by this — I know I would be.
Will you be installing Ice Cream Sandwich on your TouchPad?
