Rockstar‘s re-birth of the Max Payne franchise was originally slated for a release in March of this year. In fact, as of drafting this story today the game’s official site still lists March as the launch month.
This morning, however, brings news of a new, slightly delayed launch date for Max Payne 3. Rockstar Games will bring Max’s next tale to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 15th, 2012. The PC version of the game will launch on May 29th, 2012. Both of those dates are for North American retailers; the game will launch in the same separate fashion for Europe on May 18th and June 1st.
While the reason for the delay has not been revealed, it’s worth stating that Rockstar has selected the middle of May to release two of its most recent major projects; Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire shared a mid-may Launch. Max Payne 3 marks the next game to make May the month of Rockstar.
On a completely different note, reading the comments on Rockstar’s official Newswire post for this delay, I found myself seeing people exclaiming that Max Payne 3‘s launch setback would definitely push Grand Theft Auto V out of 2012.
Just to clear things up… Rockstar never announced GTA V for 2012. They’ve sent out one trailer for the game that said nothing of a launch date. It’s coming, yes, but not any time soon. When I posted five games I’m excited for in 2012, I was also roasted for not including GTA V. Why?
Until you see a launch date written about a game by the company publishing it, assume it’s coming out in, like, never. And, if this Max Payne 3 news has taught us anything, even written launch dates don’t necessarily secure a game for a definite release schedule.
Are you looking forward to the relaunch of Max Payne? How about you PC gamers; is the two week separation between your experience and the one for consoles cause for concern?
