iPhone 4S Untethered Jailbreak Gets Closer to Public Release (video)

The intrepid “dream team” collective of the top iOS hackers revealed the untethered iPhone 4S (and iPad 2) jailbreak is just around the corner. The iPhone 4 and original iPad (A4 devices) received the jailbreak treatment in December, with continued efforts to crack the defenses of A5 devices ongoing. While there’s no exact date for a public release, it looks as though we’re only days away.

Pod2g, who previously exploited both A4 and A5 devices, wrote a post on his blog that draws attention to a video made by DHowett showing an iPhone 4S running the new jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1, with Cydia and a reboot demonstrated for good measure. The collective advises users to upgrade their devices to iOS 5.0.1 as soon as possible before iOS 5.1 hits from Apple. “This is important because once the final version of iOS 5.1 is out, you wont be able to downgrade your device back to iOS 5.0.1,” the folks over at RedmondPie said.

Looking to jailbreak your A4 device? Follow this handy guide but, as always, proceed with extreme caution when hacking your device.
