I’m a huge fan of iOS applications that allow me to create panoramic images on my iPhone. Many of them work by making you take a series of pictures and then stitching them together, while the more advanced offerings allow you to just move your device around and have your panorama recording automatically.
But forget boring old stills; the GoPano Micro is an $80 iPhone accessory that allows you to record amazing 360° panoramic videos that you can actually pan around and change your viewing angle and perspective while watching — kind of like using Google Maps in Street View. The results really have to be seen to be believed!
The accessory is compatible with the iPhone 4 and the new iPhone 4S and comes in two parts: A case that you can keep attached to your device at all times, and the GoPano lens which you can snap in when necessary.
The device works with alongside the free GoPano application, which is available from the App Store, to record your videos and provide live interactive previews. You can then share your creations on Facebook and Twitter. Unfortunately, however, you cannot upload to YouTube, which doesn’t allow videos of this type.
To view a 360° video created by the GoPano Micro, check out the GoPano website, which offers an interactive demonstration. I think you’ll be blown away by this accessory. I certainly am, and I cannot wait to get my hands on one.
What do you think of the GoPano Micro for the iPhone?
