If you were impressed with Corning’s current Gorilla Glass standard, prepare to be amazed: the specialty glass company announced it will showcase its new Gorilla Glass 2 at next week’s CES 2012 event in Las Vegas. Gorilla Glass has become a staple among today’s smartphones, protecting them from the everyday hazards of life. Corning’s glass sequel promises to improve its product to protect our mobile devices even better in 2012.
CES attendees will get a first hand look at just how damage-resistant the new glass is. “As we did last year, we’ll provide consumers and customers visiting the Corning booth the opportunity to test first-hand the outstanding damage resistance and flexibility of this industry-leading, ultra-thin, and tough specialty glass,” said James Steiner, senior vice president and general manager of Corning.
Corning’s current Gorilla Glass technology is used by more than 30 brands, spanning more than 500 million products worldwide. The company will also unveil how it plans on implementing Gorilla Glass 2 in larger formats, including education, entertainment, auto and home appliances.
As a gadget owner, one of the most heartbreaking things is to see a device fall to the ground and shatter. People sure as heck won’t become less clumsy (including me), so it’s up Corning and Gorilla Glass 2 to help save us, and our gadgets, from ourselves.
