British broadcaster BSkyB has launched a brand new Sky Sports News application for the iPad today, which features a fancy user interface inspired by that of the much-admired Sky News application for iPad that was launched last year. Like its predecessor, the new app provides you with the latest breaking news for a variety of sports, in addition to exclusive interviews, videos, image galleries, and stats.
If you’re looking for an App Store update for your existing Sky Sports News app, however, you won’t find one. The new release is an entirely different app altogether, which goes by the name of “Sky Sports News for iPad.” The old “Sky Sports News” app is expected to be killed off later, but it’s currently the only official Sky Sports app compatible with the iPhone.
In addition to its new user interface — which I must say really is terrific — the app boasts more content than you can shake a stick at. You’ll find all the latest transfer news and rumors, interviews with today’s biggest sports stars, match reports and stats, and lots more. You can also tune into Sky Sports New radio and watch the Sky Sports News channel live.
Andy Cairns, executive editor of Sky Sports News, said the new iPad app is the latest exciting step in its evolution:
“The Sky Sports News App is the latest exciting development in the evolution of Sky Sports News, which is now bigger and better than ever before. We aim to be the ultimate sports news service for our customers, and thanks to this new app we can provide them with the latest sports news and in-depth coverage, wherever they happen to be.
The new app is free to download, and Sky subscribers with a Sky Sports or Entertainment Extra package can use it at no extra charge. Those without a subscription, however, will be required to pay a pricey £4.99 (approx. $7.80) monthly fee.
