Today, Epic Games announced by way of press release that the Infinity Blade franchise has combined to earn more than $30 million since the first title launched a year ago. The franchise includes the two Infinity Blade titles featured on the iOS platform as well as an arcade game, a novella and the original soundtrack.
Mike Capps, President of Epic Games, spoke excitedly about the news in the release:
“The success of the Infinity Blade franchise is testament to our talented team who is devoted to making games we want to play, all while using Unreal Engine technology to redefine what is expected from games on iOS devices…
We have so much more in store for players, and will continue to make great content for Apple’s evolving platforms.”
As I’ve written before, I feel that games like Infinity Ward in the mobile gaming space are way more deserving properties than other “good” titles. To see that Epic Games and ChAIR are enjoying such a level of sales is fantastic news for gamers of all sorts as that may encourage other companies to get in the business of making exciting games for the mobile platform.
Are you an Infinity Blade fan? Do you favor the original or its sequel? And are you, like me, wondering about this crazy arcade game? It’s mentioned only in passing during the press release, yet I find myself exceptionally curious. There is an Infinity Blade arcade game out there that, according to Epic Games’ PR reps, is “a big screen, coin-op version of Infinity Blade now featured in arcades nationwide”
I’ve never even heard of it! Have you?
