New Alan Wake’s Arcade Mode, Extended Trailer, Screenshots

Remedy Entertainment, the developing studio behind Alan Wake, sent out an official press release this morning announcing the brand new arcade mode for Alan Wake’s American Nightmare. This new entry in the Alan Wake series will be released exclusively on the Xbox LIVE Arcade platform as a downloadable title in the early portion of next year.

Before detailing the brand new mode, the press release takes time out to highlight the plot line of this new Alan Wake title. American Nightmare will, it seems, take cues from classic cult film tropes. Here it is, from the release:

The main story mode in Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is part of the ‘Night Springs’ TV show fiction and offers an exaggerated pulp action adventure where the horrors of reality have the all too easy habit of coming true. Alan Wake finds himself stuck in an altered reality filled with dangerous shadows; he must leap into action and pursue his evil doppelganger, Mr. Scratch, across the Arizona mesa towards the town of Night Springs. Scratch, a supernatural serial killer, has his evil plans set on Wake’s wife, Alice. Wake must learn to control reality itself and unravel the secret to Mr. Scratch’s demise while using the power of light to put an end to the darkness.

“Fight till Dawn,” the name for the new arcade mode, will put players against rounds of enemies from dusk until dawn. According to the releas, “safe havens and unlockable weapons dot the landscape, allowing for a momentary respite from the darkest of nights.” Scores will be placed on leaderboards so that players can rank themselves against friends, enemies and the rest of the world.

Some of the screenshots in the gallery below are a part of this new arcade mode, evidenced by the timers that adorn the top portion of the images.

We’ll have more on Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, including the official release date, as it comes.
