Facebook Introduces Timeline to iPhone App & Improves Performance

Facebook Mobile Timeline iPhone

Facebook began rolling out its new Timeline feature to all users last week, and while it’s another change we must get used to, we think it’s a terrific improvement. Over the weekend, the social network also brought the feature to its iPhone app in an update that also claims to improve stability and performance.

Version 4.1 of the official Facebook app hit the App Store yesterday. Its most noticeable feature is access to your “Mobile Timeline” on the iPhone (coming soon to iPad, too) which allows you to view your entire timeline as you do on your computer:

Mobile timeline starts with your unique cover photo. As you scroll down, you’ll see your posts, photos and life events as they happened, back to the day you were born. Photo albums and other posts are horizontally swipeable, so you can quickly view multiple photos or posts inline without leaving timeline. You can also swipe through the views at the top of your timeline to navigate to your map, photos, subscribers and more.

You can also edit your timeline on the go, making changes to your personal information and cover picture, and deleting those unwanted posts as you wish.

In addition to timeline, the update adds access to your friends lists, subscribers, and subscriptions; and welcome improvements to performance which promise to make the app much faster. What’s more, Facebook promises that photos are now “easier to view, upload, and comment on.”

These are welcome updates to any Facebook fan who uses the service on their iOS device, but the application still isn’t perfect. Bugs and crashes are an all too familiar experience, and the latest version certainly has its fair share. I’ve been using Facebook 4.1 since yesterday afternoon, and I’ve had three or four crashes since upgrading. And despite promising that photos are “easier to view,” they still don’t load half of the time.

But bugs and crashes aside, the new update makes Facebook on the iPhone a much more enjoyable experience.

What do you think of Mobile Timeline on the iPhone?
