Asus Transformer Prime Now Available to Pre-Order in U.K., Ships January

Eee Pad Transformer Prime Docked Left

Asus has just made this Christmas for Android fans in the U.K., who are aching to get their hands on the quad-core Eee Pad Transformer Prime, by announcing that pre-orders for the device are now available in the U.K., with shipping scheduled to begin in January.

It appears that only the 32GB Wi-Fi model will be available to us Brits, which comes bundled with that terrific keyboard dock, for £449 (approx. $697). That’s £30 (approx. $46.59) less than the 32GB iPad 2, and you get a lot more for your money:

Asus Transformer Prime Specs

  • Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb
  • Quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 32GB internal storage
  • 10.1-inch Super IPS+ LED display (1280 × 800)
  • 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p video recording
  • 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 12 hours battery life (18 hours with keyboard dock)
  • 263mm x 180.8mm x 8.3mm
  • Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
  • Bluetooth: 2.1

While the Transformer Prime ships with Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb, Asus has reportedly confirmed that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be coming to take advantage of its quad-core processor in January — shortly after its launch.

Asus says you can pre-order the device in-store now with Currys, HMV, PC World, and Carphone Warehouse, or online at Ebuyer and Tesco Direct.

If you’re not too bothered about a quad-core processor but you’re still looking for a new tablet, then you may be interested in the Transformer Prime’s predecessor, the original Eee Pad Transformer, which has now been reduced until December 30. You can currently bag the 16GB model for £299 (approx.$646), or the 32GB model for £349 (approx. $541). Unlike the Transformer Prime, however, the keyboard dock for the original Transformer must be purchased separately.

We’re big fans of the Transformer Prime here at TechnoBuffalo, and we believe it’s the best Android tablet yet.

Will you be pre-ordering your Transformer Prime this weekend?
