The rumors of an iPad Mini have once again surfaced saying that Apple will produce a smaller version of its popular tablet measuring 7.85-inches.
For well over a year now rumors have popped up from time to time that Apple could come out with a smaller version of the iPad to compete with the growing number of smaller tablets such as the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet. The latest report comes via DigiTimes, which says the iPad 3 will launch in the spring as we expect, but that the iPad Mini would be released in the fall, closer to the 2012 holiday shopping season.
The sources that spoke with DigiTimes claim that the panels will be coming from LG Electronics and AU Optronics and that production could begin as early as the second quarter of 2012.
Considering how long these rumors have been floating around you almost have to believe that Apple has at least toyed with this concept, but that doesn’t mean that it will actually ever see production. Devices are prototyped all the time by companies as they research different concepts, so while there may be a 7.85-inch iPad Mini floating around out there, only time will tell if we’ll ever be able to buy one.
