This year marks the 10th anniversary of one of the gaming industry’s most genre defining titles of all time, Grand Theft Auto III. As such, Rockstar Games, creators of the classic, have remade the title for mobile, touchscreen devices. Mobile gamers are about to get their feet wet in the widely critically acclaimed world of GTA III with Grand Theft Auto III: 10th Anniversary Edition.
It’s not like Rockstar went the route of only porting the software and adding touchscreen controls with this remake. They’ve gone a few steps further, improving upon things like the game’s visuals. Here’s Rockstar’s Newswire with what they’ve done for this mobile revisit:
Grand Theft Auto III: 10 Year Anniversary Edition is the complete console experience of the award-winning open world original, enhanced and optimized for touch screen mobile devices with new features including an intuitive, fully scalable and customizable user interface; upgraded textures; greater resolution and draw distance; and new mission replay and autosave features for an all-new experience on mobile devices.
If you own an iPad, iPhone or iPod and are rocking iOS 4.3 or later, you can download Grand Theft Auto III from the App Store right now. If you own an Android device and have version 2.1 or later, you can buy GTA III from the Android Market. The best part of this whole thing? The game is selling for $4.99 in both marketplaces. It’s massive, it’s classic and that’s money well spent.
That said, I guarantee franchise fans are already clamoring for a San Andreas remake for their mobile devices. How huge would that be?
Who amongst the herd plans on picking this title up? Will touchscreen controls help or hinder your experience in this version of Liberty City? If you’ve downloaded and tried the game already, let us know what you think about the remake.
