Epic Games’ Fortnite Debuts; “No Dudebros” says Bleszinski

Before the Spike Video Game Awards show last Saturday Night, Epic Games came out and spoke about their upcoming, unannounced project. They immediately talked about how different from their normal work it is; and then they debuted the trailer you see above.

Cliff Bleszinski, Design Director at Epic Games, spoke to the away-from-normal feel Fortnite brings to the his studio. The quote comes from Joystiq; here’s Bleszinski:

“There’s no dudebros in it…Not that there’s anything wrong with that, right? But creatively for the team, Gears has been amazing for us. But it’s fun to kind of stretch our wings and do something that’s a little different from the usual.”

Bleszinski went on to explain where the project came from. While he may have been involved in bringing the idea to fruition, it seems he’s involvement here doesn’t go much further than simply backing he game.

“It was a project that was pitched internally. I was a staunch supporter of the idea, because the game is just like a no-brainer — I was like yes.”

Fortnite appears to draw on the model off zombie-esque villains attacking a group of survivors. While that’s certainly one that has more than demonstrated its popularity with consumers, it may also be one that some gamers are tired of.

Does this look like a game you’ll want to play?

The Spike Video Game Awards ran on Saturday night. During the show, several brand new trailers for projects both freshly revealed and already known were made public. As part of our early week coverage, we’ll be posting those trailers along with additional game details from the publishers and developers behind each project.

If you’ve not seen the media before, enjoy it. If you already saw it on Saturday night, get pumped to enjoy it again. However, like we said, we will be working to bring details beyond what was revealed during the show.
