The Back to Karkand map pack features four classic maps from the Battlefield series. The map in the trailer above, Wake Island, is actually my personal favorite in the entire franchise. It’s big, it’s diverse and it accommodates all sorts of play styles.
The PlayStation 3, in an exclusive deal with EA and Battlefield 3, will enjoy a week of early exclusivity for all of the map packs released for this title. Much like the deal between Activision and Microsoft for Call of Duty, the rest of the gaming world will have to wait a bit in order to buy and download any of Battlefield 3‘s post-launch content.
Don’t you just love business?
The map pack has not arrived without its problems, however, as PS3 users need to go about getting into matches differently in order to access this new content. Kotaku has instructions from EA concerning hot to get to the Back to Karkand maps:
Please use the Quick Match filter settings to pick the Back to Karkand map and mode you want to play. Going through the server browser right now will match you up with base game maps only. We are hard at work isolating and fixing this issue and will have an ETA on this later. Stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, using Quick Match will let you select and play on any map, from the base game or Back to Karkand.
While PlayStation 3 gamers will be able to download the Back to Karkand pack today, Xbox 360 and PC gamers will need to wait until December 13th to get the goods. If you purchased the Limited Edition of Battlefield 3, then you will get this content pack for free. If you did not, however, Back to Karkand will cost you $15.00 or 1200 Microsoft Points.
We’ll have more from Battlefield 3 and its DLC as it comes.
