GamePro Magazine commanded a huge part of my childhood. Growing up, every month saw me waiting for the next issue in one of my favorite gaming rags. I had subscriptions to EGM, Nintendo Power and GamePro for as long as I can remember. That’s why the news that came out today completely sucks.
GamePro is closing down on December 5th at noon. Both the magazine and online sides of the publication will be shuttered. The content will be absorbed by PCWorld.com.
GamePro has always been a stable feature in the industry. The magazine first started in print in 1989, and the website began in 1998. It is one of the oldest publications in the industry.
A few months ago, GamePro announced that they were moving from monthly issues to a quarterly release schedule. Their content promised to be bigger, better and more original. They saw only one of those larger editions head to print.
On a more personal note… I have a lot of friends and colleagues that either have worked or were working at GamePro throughout the years. Despite the fact that the publication is gone, know that you folks have all left your mark on the industry. I know I speak for the entire TechnoBuffalo herd, both its staff and community, when I say that we wish you all the best.
You will land on your feet.
