MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.5

If you’re the proud owner of an Apple MacBook Pro and your machine has been suffering from random shutdowns during “heavy workload,” then there’s a firmware update waiting just for you.

The MacBook Pro SMC Firmware 1.5 update is available to download now via Software Update on your Mac, or from Apple’s website. The file weighs in at just 730KB, but promises to fix the random shutdowns that have plagued many MacBook Pro users:

“This update resolves an issue where a MacBook Pro being used with a power adapter may unexpectedly shut down under heavy workload if the battery charge level is near empty.”

Apple doesn’t specify which MacBook Pro models are affected, but does state that you need to be running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or OS X 10.7.2 in order to install the fix.

Has the latest MacBook Pro firmware fixed random shutdowns for you?
