Lovefilm App Comes to Android, But Don’t Expect Movie Streaming

Lovefilm on Android

Lovefilm is the best alternative to Netflix that we have for renting movies and TV shows here in the U.K. (for the time being!). The service is already available on iOS devices, and today it has expanded its mobile reach with the launch of a brand new app for Android. Just don’t expect movie streaming on-the-go.

Like the Lovefilm application for the iPhone, the Android app allows you to manage your rental list and browse the service’s 70,000 titles, including films, TV shows, and games, in the palm of your hand. You can also watch movie trailers for many of the films, but you cannot stream full movies.

Right now, that functionality is available on the iPad, PS3, and PC only, which is a huge shame if you’re a Lovefilm subscriber. With the launch of Netflix in the U.K. just around the corner, however, I’m assuming Lovefilm will be pushing to rollout mobile streaming in the near future. Otherwise its American rival will step foot in Britain with a huge advantage up its sleeve.

To celebrate the launch of its new Android application, Lovefilm is offering a free 30-day trial using the promotional code ‘ANDROID01’ on its website, which will allow you to take advantage of the service before you commit to a monthly subscription.

The Lovefilm app for Android will work on the most up-to-date devices, according to the company, but is best suited to devices running Android 2.2 or higher with HVGA (320 x 480) displays.

What do you think of Lovefilm for Android?
