Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Stable, Elite Service Stumbling

As Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launched overnight, millions of players have fired up their consoles, plopped in the new game and taken to the online arm of Activision‘s mega franchise. Those folks, it seems, have enjoyed an exceptionally stable multiplayer experience. We have not seen any major stories concerning network downtime for Modern Warfare 3‘s multiplayer servers.

However, users are reporting issues with registering and logging into the Call of Duty Elite service since Modern Warfare 3‘s midnight launch. As the service’s status page indicates, hundreds of thousands of brand new accounts have been created for Elite, but the network has been struggling with capacity issues.

On the aforementioned status page, a message to potential users regarding the spotty uptime has been posted. Here it is in full:

We are proud to say that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has launched and millions of people are already playing online.

Registration requests for our new live service Call of Duty Elite are exceeding even our most optimistic expectations, which is creating a bottleneck and some players have not been able to register.

We have already registered hundreds of thousands of players and we are working around the clock to increase our capacity as quickly as possible.

If you encounter this issue, please check back here or follow us at@CallofDutyElite on Twitter for live status updates.

Please be assured your gameplay data is safe and that whenever you successfully register for Call of Duty Elite, all of your data will be waiting for you. So enjoy the game, start ranking up and we assure you we are working around the clock to accommodate every player who wants to be a part of Call of Duty Elite as quickly as possible. We will update you frequently to keep you informed.

For what it’s worth, we tried registering an account and linking it to our gamertags once we heard word of the service’s downtime. It worked just fine for us, and we were registered and connected within minutes. It’s quite possible that the service is well on its way to being stable.

We’ll have more on Call of Duty as it comes.
