Early Copy of Modern Warfare 3 Sells for More than $1,725

One, what can only be described as, extreme Call of Duty fan recently won an auction for an early, street-date broken copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The auction ended with a bid of $1,725 plus shipping. The news comes from Joystiq, and it just about made my day.

While the seller did not explain how they got a hold of this advanced copy of Modern Warfare 3, we have been hearing stories of retail chains like K-Mart breaking the pre-determined launch date of the game.

The truly crazy part of this whole thing? The game will be on store shelves next Tuesday! This eBay buyer basically spent nearly 30 times the suggested retail price for a game that will be available to the general public in less than five days.

The kicker? If the purchaser selected One-Day shipping, delivery is estimated to be “within 1-2 business days…”

This sale happened on Thursday the 3rd, at almost 8pm PST. The seller lives in New York, so it was 11pm for them. That means the earliest this person would get out to ship the product would be Friday the 4th. Two business days from the 4th is November 7th. November 8th is the day Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 goes on sale.

There’s a chance this buyer won’t even get to play the game until Monday or Tuesday.

If, by some stroke of genius, the winner of this auction is reading this article, we’d love to know if and when you have the game in hand. We’d also love to know if you still think it was worth $1,725. Please, be in touch.
