Swiping Swype: Xperia’s Gesture Inputs (video)

When Xperia users worldwide finally join their Nordic brethren in getting their hands on the Gingerbread 2.3.4 update, Sony will have a little treat stuffed in the box — gesture typing. Not unlike Swype — in fact, kind of a dead ringer for it — this “Gesture input” implementation lets users swipe around the onscreen QWERTY to input characters wherever the keyboard pops up.

According to the official blog, you can expect its impending arrival on the following gadgets: Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia ray, Xperia active, Xperia neo V, Xperia arc S and the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.

What do you think? Are you an Xperia user who’s excited about getting your hands on this? Or are you a Swype purist, annoyed about seeing your favorite keyboard being mimicked? Weigh in.
