Nominees Announced, New Alan Wake Premiering at Spike VGAs

Spike just sent out a press blast that fell directly into our inboxes here at TechnoBuffalo. In it was some information regarding both several upcoming games and a few of their awards night’s nominees. The Spike Video Game Awards will air live on December 10th at 8:00pm EST.

Part of the show will be the discussion and reveals for several games. Announced in the email itself was the following:

Guests include legendary game designer Hideo Kojima who will reveal the truth about “Metal Gear Solid: Rising” with a spectacular world premiere, the announcement of a new project and new studio from BioWare, creators of Most Anticipated Game of the Year nominee “Mass Effect 3” and the return of Xbox hero “Alan Wake” in an all-new adventure. Additional information and the first visuals from some of these world premieres can be found exclusively in the December issue of “Game Informer” magazine.

Here are the nominees for both Game of the Year for 2011 and The Most Anticipated Game:

GAME OF THE YEAR

MOST ANTICIPATED GAME

I’m not saying they won’t be great games, but it’s a little crazy that both The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword have earned nominations already; these titles haven’t even seen either their release or large scale critical reception yet. Spike, and the folks assembling the show, are just assuming they’ll be good enough for Game of the Year.

Also, anyone else notice the absence of games like Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, L.A. Noire, Gears of War 3, Resistance 3 and more?

You can vote on any of the selections above at VGA.Spike.com.
