Hidden Gems: Metal Arms: Glitch in the System

In this weekly column, we’ll be selecting inexpensive, discarded titles from still playable consoles for your perusal. They may be games you’ve heard of and remember playing, or they may be games that have flown completely off of your radar. Just know that we love them and they’re available on the cheap. That’s a bonafide win/win situation.

If you have any favorite titles that you consider hidden gems, let us know in the comments below and we might feature your pick in the weekly column.

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System
Platform:
PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Xbox 360
Original Release: November 2003

One reader commented on a past Hidden Gem and indicated that this was a game worth covering. They were right. It wasn’t until last week that I was going through my games collection and spotted this title on the GameCube. Yeah, I bought it on its worst platform.

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System is a third-person, action shooter with tons of weapons and upgrades to be earned throughout the campaign. There’s a relatively fun multiplayer component (a good heft of modes and maps) and a story actually worth ingesting. Honestly, one could compare the gameplay and tale to, say, a Ratchet & Clank title.

The game is fun, varied, easy to find and well worth whatever you pay to enjoy it. While the holiday season is never that great for playing hidden gems, this one will do wonders for your free time in June.

You can land it on other, older platforms, or you can actually buy Metal Arms: Glitch in the System for 1200 Points on Xbox LIVE. It all comes down to a matter of controller preference and convenience.

Be sure to check out our ever-growing list of Hidden Gems.
