Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Activision have released a new multiplayer gameplay video that highlights the latest new-to-Call of Duty feature: weapon progression. To give you a quick idea of what you can expect in the clip above, here’s a quote from Mark Rubin, Executive Producer at Infinity Ward:
“We’ve basically given every weapon an experience bar; so, now you’re leveling your weapons, as well as your player.”
Leveling weapons, it would seem, has made it so that you no longer have to spend in-game currency in order to purchase certain attachments and customizations. You’ll also be able to level-up your guns in a way that unlocks these new Weapon Proficiencies. That means you’ll be able to apply things like less kick-back to your gun, eliminating the recoil that comes from firing.
The proficiencies can also be class specific.
As has always been the case with Call of Duty games, and what basically set the standard for today’s multiplayer, it seems like players are going to be rewarded for almost everything they do. Now, simply using a specific gun for a length of time will mean you’ll gain mastery, both literally and virtually, over said weapon.
