Batman: Arkham City Ships 4.6 Million in Week One

Warner Bros. has announced by way of a press release that Batman: Arkham City has officially shipped more than 4.6 million copies worldwide in the first week since its launch. That count stands as more than double Arkham Asylum‘s week one shipments.

The L.A. Times is reporting that Arkham City has sold more than two million copies of the 4.6 million shipped, placing it alongside some of the gaming world’s fastest sellers in history.

Two quotes within the press release prove interesting for gamers and demonstrate both the publisher and developer’s commitment to Bats. Here are both points:

Batman: Arkham City is one of the best action adventure games, proven by the tremendous reviews, and it further establishes the Batman brand as a marquee franchise for our growing business,” said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Rocksteady Studios went above and beyond in delivering an incredible game and the support of the entire team at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment drove the excellent campaign a game like this deserves.”

“The true test for any game is what the players think and we have been thrilled by their reaction to Batman: Arkham City,” said Sefton Hill, Game Director at Rocksteady Studios. “The team at Rocksteady put every ounce of effort into making the best Batman experience we possibly could, so we are overwhelmed by the incredible feedback from the community.”

I’ve beaten Arkham City. I’ll say here that the game lives up to, and surpasses, every ounce of hype churned out by its marketing team. It is an achievement, and a strong contender for Game of the Year, despite the fact that this is one of the best gaming seasons in a long time. Rocksteady nailed it.

If you’re a fan of Batman, pick this one up. PC Gamers will be able to do so in less than a few week’s time. The game is currently available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
